About The LSE Innovation Hub

LSE research is well known for impacting on policy makers around the world, but our research has had far less perceived impact on the private sector. A commitment to better engage with business is therefore part of the School’s strategy, including through research commercialisation. Recognising the ever-accelerating use of data and social science in all aspects of industry and commerce, LSE has also embarked upon a new direction in commercialisation of social science research and the creation of a new service in innovation for the school’s community.  At senior management level, LSE has established the office of Strategic Director of Innovation; and set up LSE Innovation within the Research and Innovation Division.

The objective is to maximise the impact of LSE’s research by helping academic innovators find new routes to impact by translating research ideas into new businesses, products, or services to tackle societal challenges. The intention is to support this approach through the launch of a new collaborative initiative, the LSE Innovation Hub, which will see LSE Alumni and friends of the school invited to engage with specific LSE Innovation projects to help provide solutions to major global challenges.

The purpose of this initiative is to mobilise LSE research for the betterment of society through the medium of entrepreneurs and businesses thereby expanding its impact by communicating the opportunities available for LSE research to work with business and the private sector. Also, to communicate how social science research can impact society through entrepreneurship, commercialisation and business engagement and showcase examples of this. In addition, we are seeking to improve understanding of the social sciences and their value to the world outside LSE and enhance and diversify revenue streams for research, by showcasing the impact of social science research by means of the private sector, in addition to other more traditional routes.
